Beach Wedding

When people while away the hours imagining their big day, no one dreams about a wedding washed out by a typically British down-pour. Even if the rain does manage to hold off for the day, it is hard to imagine that any happy couple would want grey skies or unseasonably chilly temperatures on their wedding day. For many people this means booking your wedding and crossing your fingers that the weather will be kind, along with a serious amount of time spent checking weather forecasts in the weeks before hand. In recent years, however, people have become less and less willing to take their chances and are instead getting married abroad in order to ensure their wedding day is one filled with sunshine as well as romance.

If you want a sun-drenched wedding then Gran Canaria is a particularly lovely place to celebrate your big day, as it is well known for its all-year sunshine and beautiful scenery. Up until recently local law prevented non-residents from marrying on the island, yet changes in legislation mean that it is now possible for foreigners to enjoy all the delights of this beautiful island on their wedding day.

Many couples choose to get married in Gran Canaria because they like the idea of an outdoor wedding, as what could be lovelier than a sun-drenched wedding ceremony set against the backdrop of a beautiful island. For many couples the ultimate fantasy is a beach wedding where you can hear the waves lapping against the shore as you say your vows and this is of course possible on Gran Canaria. Notably though there are many other opportunities for outdoor weddings that do not involve sandy feet, such as a ceremony set in the gardens of a beautiful hotel, or a variety of other stunning locations across the island. If you are feeling extra adventurous it is even possible to say your vows whilst parachuting!

Of course it is also possible to have your wedding inside and many people who come to Gran Canaria for their wedding choose to have the ceremony in a church. Many of the island`s most luxurious hotels have chapels within their grounds which are perfect for such occasions, or you could even opt to have your wedding in a local church. Of course it is also important to remember that you have as much choice with regard to the type of wedding ceremony that you have in Gran Canaria as you do back home, as it is possible to have ceremonies that are religious, civil or spiritual. Sam sex civil partnership ceremonies, commitment ceremonies and renewal of vows ceremonies are also all possible on Gran Canaria.

There are regular flights from airports across the UK to Las Palmas Airport, the only airport on Gran Canaria. From the airport you can either take a taxi to your hotel, or there are regular bus services from the airport to most of the main destinations on the island. Although the distance might make it seem like a hassle, a wedding in Gran Canaria cost on average £14,000 less than a wedding held in the UK, including a honeymoon. With prices like that you could even afford to have a cheap holiday in Maspalomas to celebrate your first anniversary!
